A 16-storey IT incubation center will be built in Bagerhat at a cost of Taka 170 crores

'Aim to be efficient'

A Smart employment fair is being held for the first time in Bagerhat for IT, computer and online skilled people. The Member of Parliament for Bagerhat 2 Constituency Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tanmoy inaugurated the fair at Zilla Parishad Auditorium on Friday (May 12) in the morning.

The State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak was the Chief Guest in the event organized on the occasion of the fair. At that time, in view of the demands of Member of Parliament Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tanmoy, he announced the establishment of 16-storey Sheikh Kamal IT Incubation Center at Bagerhat at a cost of Tk. 170 crore.

After the ceremony, he also visited the proposed site of the Incubation Center.

Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Azizur Rahman presided over the event while the Bagerhat 4 Constituency Member of Parliament Advocate Amirul Alam Milan, District Police Superintendent KM Ariful Haque and District Awami League General Secretary valiant freedom fighter Hemayet Uddin were present as special guests.

While speaking as the chief guest, the ICT state minister said that as a result of the creation of opportunities, digital products such as refrigerators, televisions, ACs, mobiles, laptops are now being produced in the country. 50 thousand jobs have been created in this sector. 650,000 freelancers, 450,000 software companies and 200 call centers have provided employment to 200,000 youth in just 14 years. 13 crore people are using internet. The development that BNP-Jamaat-Jatiya Party could not achieve in 50 years, Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has developed more than 100 times in just 14 years.

Palak also said that apart from making ICT lessons from the sixth standard to build smart citizens, various initiatives are being implemented across the country including setting up of Sheikh Russell Digital Lab, implementation of Learning and Earning project. As a result, now more than 500 hundred freelancers are earning foreign currency sitting in Bagerhat.    

He also said, we have only one goal, to be efficient. And if someone is skilled, there will be no shortage of employment, Insha Allah.

Additional Director General of Information and Communication Technology Department SAM Rafiqunnabi; Head of BRAC Kumon Limited Nehal Bin Hasan; Freelancer Minhaj Uddin who made the students of Qaumi Madarasa technology proficient and others were present in the event.  

After job application, a face-to-face interview and screening sessions among the 1600 registered youth interested in building a career in IT took place at the fair premises; they got the opportunity to be shortlisted in 35 leading IT institutes of the country. Also, the fair advised to build a career in various sectors of information technology including e-commerce and freelancing. In the event, two successful freelancers of Bagerhathat - Rabiul Islam and Hafsa Begum - who took online training, presented their success stories.
